Blues-Blue Jackets Preview

Playing without Rick Nash isn't likely to help the Columbus Blue Jackets end their scoring slump.

Nash's status is in doubt as the Blue Jackets look to snap a six-game losing streak when they face the struggling St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.

Nash, who had a team-high 31 goals last season, has a sore groin and did not play as Columbus (5-13-1) lost 3-1 to Nashville on Monday.

The fourth-year winger's status for Wednesday's game is uncertain. He leads the Blue Jackets with six goals and is second with 14 points.

Columbus, which has an NHL-low 40 goals, is mired in its longest losing streak since a seven-game skid from Nov. 11-25, 2005.

The Blue Jackets were nearly shut out Wednesday for the third time in five contests, getting their only goal from Jason Chimera with 15 seconds to play. Columbus is 0-4 under interim coach Gary Agnew since Gerard Gallant was fired.

"We are not getting the job done from an offensive standpoint," Agnew said. "We are just not generating anything offensively."

St. Louis (5-11-3), which has lost three straight, is the last team Columbus has beaten. Rostislav Klesla had two goals to lead the Blue Jackets to a 4-2 road win over the Blues on Nov. 9.

Columbus, which hasn't won a home game in regulation since beating Los Angeles on Oct. 27, has won three straight against St. Louis since a 3-2 overtime loss on March 13.

The Blues were outshot 44-21 in a 4-2 loss to Vancouver on Friday night.

Doug Weight and Keith Tkachuk scored for St. Louis, which has lost six of seven overall and is 1-7-1 on the road this season.

"Home hasn't been that great either," Weight said. "There's no excuses. We're consistently underachieving. The position we're in talent-wise you have to look in the mirror and know what kind of team you have to be and if we don't play 60 minutes we're not going to get too many good results."

Weight, who played his 1,000th game, scored his first goal of the season.

"Certainly I haven't got off to a good start statistically," said Weight, who also has 10 assists in 19 games. "I have to be a big producer on this team. I have to play a big role every game and I haven't done that. It's nice to get one, but we've got to start winning."

Blues center Petr Cajanek has missed two straight games with a hip injury. His status for Wednesday's game is uncertain.
