COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Sergei Fedorov's one-timer 35 seconds into overtime gave the Columbus Blue Jackets a 5-4 victory over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night.

It was Fedorov's 14th career overtime goal, tying Mats Sundin for the NHL record.

Dallas, playing a skeleton lineup while resting many of its top players for the playoffs, scored three goals in a span of 3:36 early in the third period to take a 4-3 lead.

The Stars were two men down after Brenden Morrow was called for slashing and Niko Kapanen for tripping late in the game. The Blue Jackets pulled goaltender Marc Denis for a 6-on-3 advantage and quickly scored the tying goal on Mark Hartigan's one-timer from the point with 56.6 seconds left.

In the overtime, the Blue Jackets were still on the power play when David Vyborny - who had a goal and two assists - slid a pass through the crease to set up Fedorov. It was the 12th goal of the season for Fedorov, acquired in an October trade with Anaheim.

Fedorov, Hartigan and Trevor Letowski each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who finished with a franchise-record 74 points. In addition, their 35 wins, 23 home wins, 12 road wins and 223 goals were all records over the team's five seasons.

Jamie Pushor also scored his first NHL goal in more than three years.

The Stars' Kapanen, Steve Ott and Niklas Hagman each scored to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead early in the third period. Bill Guerin also had a goal for the Stars, who open their best-of-seven playoff series against Colorado on Friday night.

Guerin, Hagman and Ott each had a goal and an assist.

Only 17 players dressed for the stripped-down Stars. Among the healthy scratches were Mike Modano (77 points), Jason Arnott (76), Jere Lehtinen (52), Stu Barnes (36) and defensemen Willie Mitchell and Philippe Boucher.

By winning, the Blue Jackets were eliminated from any chance of winning the No. 1 overall NHL draft pick this summer. Only the teams with the five worst records in the league are eligible to pull the No. 1 pill in Thursday's draft lottery. Columbus ended up tied for 25th in the NHL with Boston, but won a tiebreaker by having more victories.

With Columbus leading 3-1 early in the final period, Blue Jackets veteran defenseman Adam Foote was called for a five-minute slashing penalty for decking Jaroslav Svoboda. The penalty energized the Stars, who turned the game around.

Kapanen cut the lead to 3-2 when he scored his 14th goal after Hagman carried the puck from the left corner along the goal line and fed him near the edge of the right circle.

Just 1:31 later, the Stars scored a similar goal when Ott scored his fifth off a Morrow feed.

It took another 2:05 for the go-ahead goal, with Guerin setting up Hagman for his eighth.

Vyborny, who has four goals and four assists in the last three games, made it 1-0 just 44 seconds into the second period.

The Stars pulled even when Guerin converted a nifty pass from behind the net from Morrow,

Less than a minute later, the Blue Jackets regained the lead when Letowski netted a rebound.

Pushor then scored in the final minute of the second period, corralling the puck along the dasher and then beating Johan Hedberg with a hard slap shot from the top of the right circle.

Notes: Just before the start of the game, the Blue Jackets announced they had signed D Rostislav Klesla to a four-year contract. ... Dallas is 17-2-1 alltime against Columbus. ... Columbus D Ron Hainsey set a franchise record by finishing with a plus-13.
