DETROIT (AP) -Dominik Hasek took care of the first 40 minutes before his teammates got rolling in the final 20.

Hasek made 35 saves and moved into a tie for eighth place on the career shutouts list with No. 76, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Hasek tied Ed Belfour and Tony Esposito for career shutouts and notched his eighth of the season. Kyle Calder, Todd Bertuzzi, and Kris Draper scored for Detroit, which could have clinched the Central Division but the second-place Predators earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss at home to the Blackhawks.

Fredrik Norrena made 21 saves for Columbus.

Detroit was soundly outplayed over the first two periods, outshot 24-15.

"From our point of view, it was not the best game," Hasek said. "We really struggled for two periods. In the third, we scored a goal and changed the momentum."

The Blue Jackets had several outstanding scoring chances turned aside by Hasek, the six-time Vezina Trophy winner.

"Our goalie played well. He outplayed us," Columbus left wing Jason Chimera said. "We've got to play better, get some dirty goals."

Calder put Detroit up 1-0 16 seconds into the third period with a spectacular effort.

He stole the puck from Ron Hainsey in the left corner of the Blue Jackets' end, knocking Hainsey to the ice in the process. Calder took the puck to the net and beat Norrena with a backhand shot as he was being tripped down by Sergei Fedorov, who was sliding across the crease.

"He didn't see me coming. I just hit him and the puck was lying there," Calder said. "I saw (Fedorov) coming across and I knew I just had to get it around his stick."

Hainsey wasn't happy after the game.

"It got them up 1-0 nothing and we couldn't come back and tie it," he said. "Couldn't score in the first two and then the start of the third period cost us the game."

Bertuzzi put in a rebound off a goal-mouth scramble with 2:24 left, and Draper added an empty-net goal with 46 seconds remaining.

The Red Wings got the win, but Hasek knows they'll have to have a much better effort in the playoffs.

"Against a team like Columbus, it's good enough," he said. "But in the playoffs, it won't be enough."

NOTES: Detroit's power play is 6-for-55 in its last 15 games and going 0-for-6 on Tuesday night. ... Red Wings D Mathieu Schneider missed the game because of a sore right elbow.
