Greg Murray
Public Address Announcer
In 2000 there was perhaps no other game night position search more important than the coveted job of Blue Jackets P.A. Announcer. After a rigorous audition in which several candidates got their chance to demonstrate their abilities during the inaugural pre-season, Greg Murray was chosen to be the in-arena voice of Your Team.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Murray has seen first-hand the development of the Ohio penitentiary into what is now the Arena District. Greg watched the construction of Nationwide Arena every day from the High Street studios of Q-FM-96 where he worked for seven and a half years.
A career broadcaster, Murray started in college at Ohio University with his first morning show partner (and current Blue Jackets in-arena host) Mike Todd. For several years, they held the state record for the longest radio marathon in Ohio history-99.3 hours on-air, non-stop. Now Murray acts as the Production and Imaging Director for CVCO Inc. which owns three Christian-format radio stations in Ohio, including Columbus' 104.9 The River. You might also hear the familiar 'Voice of your Blue Jackets' while watching TV or listening to your radio as Murray does a variety of freelance radio and television voiceovers through his self owned and operated company MurrVox.
Murray married his high school sweetheart, Julie, and together they have two sons, Wesley and Cooper who keep him busy away from the rink. At the end of the 2006-07 season, Murray had announced 270 consecutive Blue Jackets home games and looks forward to entertaining Blue Jackets fans for years to come.
Mike ToddTodd is a native of Ohio and grew up in Piedmont on Piedmont Lake. He attended Union Local High School in Morristown and is a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Communications. While at OU, Mike met Greg Murray, the Blue Jackets P.A. Announcer, and together they hosted the university radio station's morning show, "Murray, Todd and More". For several years they held the record for the longest radio marathon in Ohio history – 99.3 hours on-air, non-stop.
After graduation, Mike worked at several central Ohio radio stations and now owns and operates two restaurants in the central Ohio area while also running his own DJ business. When not at Nationwide Arena entertaining Blue Jackets fans, you might find him spinning the tunes and lending his hosting skills to a wedding, bar mitzvah or other special occasion.
Mike and his wife Luann have three children Garyck, Carleigh, and Brenna and reside in Pickerington, Ohio. Stop by and say hello to Mike the next time you're at a Blue Jackets game.
Bob Dawson Organist
LET'S...GO...JACKETS! Da...Da...Da-Da-Da
Step inside Nationwide Arena on any game night and before long you'll hear the fans bellowing these three words followed by the five unmistakable, signature drum beats performed by team organist and music maestro - Bob Dawson.
Dawson became the team organist in 2002 and has since claimed his perch at the Nationwide On Your Side Fan Stand where he often entertains fans with his friendly smile and fulfillment of song requests, both on the organ and from the Jackets music computer system.
Bob, who grew up in East Liverpool, Ohio, says he was destined to become the Blue Jackets organist since in his first show with his first rock band in college, he ironically wore a hockey jersey on stage. After graduating from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Telecommunications, Bob played in the rock bands "Last Call" and "Johnny Thief and the Kleptones".
Along with working for the Jackets and being an avid music composer, Bob works full time for an advertising and public relations firm. He and his wife Kerrie make their home in Westerville.
Stop by the Nationwide On Your Side Fan Stand and say hello to Bob! And the next time the Jackets go on the man-advantage, listen for Bob's signature power play drum beat and be sure to clap along!
Meet Your CBJ Anthem Singer
Leo Welsh
Blue Jackets Anthem Singer
Ladies and Gentlemen, please rise and kindly remove your hats for the singing of the National Anthem performed by Blue Jackets Anthem Singer, Mr. Leo Welsh.
After several seasons of showcasing a variety of singers, the Blue Jackets began an extensive search to identify one singer who could quiet the masses, inspire the team and flawlessly perform both the Star Spangled Banner and O'Canada on a regular basis - one singer who the fans could call their own and be an identifiable part of YOUR TEAM. With his rich tone and vibrant rendition of Francis Scott Key's famous anthem, it didn't take long for Leo Welsh to sing his way into the hearts of Blue Jackets fans.
When not singing at Blue Jackets games, Leo is an active member of Opera Columbus, where he has performed in over a dozen productions since 2002. In addition, Leo serves as a section leader and soloist for the First Congregational Church.
Leo graduated from Ohio University and now resides in Columbus where he works in a nursing home and rehabilitation center while continuing to pursue his musical and theatrical endeavors.
The Columbus Blue Jackets' Event Presentation/Production department was honored with a Golden Matrix Award for Best Overall Videoboard Display in the National Hockey League during the 24th Annual IDEA (Information Display and Entertainment Association) Conference.
The Golden Matrix Awards recognize excellence and creativity in several categories of electronic display production which have been produced for display on a system to a live audience during an event. The Golden Matrix Awards were created by Mitsubishi Diamond Vision and SONY Jumbotron in 1988.
