Past State Tournament Results Ohio High School Hockey Once a player enters into high school they have the option of playing high school instead of (or as well as) playing for their youth organization. There are currently three different levels of high school hockey in the Columbus area. Teams play at the varsity, club or junior varsity level. Varsity hockey is officially recognized by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and teams must adhere to the rules set forth by this governing body. Varsity hockey is officially recognized by the school they represent. Club hockey is not officially recognized by the OHSAA or the school and they receive no formal support from their individual schools. In most cases the junior varsity teams are secondary teams for the existing varsity and club programs, making some of them officially recognized by the OHSAA. In many cases, there is not a tremendous difference in caliber between a varsity team and a club team; the difference is simply the club team has not obtained varsity status. For more information on the OHSAA, visit www.ohsaa.org Varsity Programs: The local varsity teams play in the Capital Hockey Conference. For more on this league, visit www.capitalhockeyconference.com.
