The mission of the Columbus Blue Jackets Fan Development Department is to give back to the community through various programming and events that introduce and teach the fundamentals of hockey to people of all ages in a safe and professional environment.

Junior Jackets, Presented by Donatos


Learn how to play hockey from the professionals.

The Columbus Blue Jackets "Junior Jackets" program is dedicated to developing interest and participation in ice hockey throughout central Ohio. Our professional instructors are committed to providing Ohio's premier initiation program in a fun, safe and positive environment. It is the goal of the program to prepare participants for play in a more structured youth hockey association in the future.

There are six total sessions: four eight week sessions offered in the fall and winter, one eight week session offered in the spring and a four week session in the summer. The sessions combine for a total of 44 weeks offered during the year at Chiller Dublin, Chiller Easton, Chiller North and the Dispatch Ice Haus.

Ohio High School Ice Hockey Championships

The Blue Jackets, in conjunction with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and Nationwide Arena coordinate the Ohio High School Ice Hockey Championships. This year's championship will take place on March 14-15. This season's championship will be the second tournament following a 10-year agreement reached between the Columbus Blue Jackets, OHSAA, and Nationwide Arena.

Last season, Lakewood St. Edward defeated Toledo-St. Francis de Sales, 4-2 in the first semi-final game. First time participants Gates Mills Gilmour Academy and Cincinnati St. Xavier squared off in the second semi-final with Glimour Academy winning 4-2.

On Monday evening, Lakewood St. Edward defeated Gates Mills Gimour Academy 3-1 to become in the 2008 OHSAA State Ice Hockey champion.

State Tournament District Brackets will be announced in February.

Future Jackets, Presented by Donatos

A program that provides local youth hockey players the opportunity of a lifetime.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are happy to provide local mini-mite and mite age hockey players the opportunity of a lifetime by playing during intermission breaks at select Blue Jackets home games. Treated like the pros, participants dress in a locker room next to the Blue Jackets dressing room, wear Blue Jackets uniforms and play at Nationwide Arena in front of 18,000 people.

Summer Hockey School

The Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey School has been designed to provide the highest quality training and instruction to its participants. Done in a camp curriculum atmosphere, the sessions offer players of every age and skill level the best value and experience in a positive learning environment.

The camps take place at Chiller North and will feature appearances from Blue Jackets players and members of the Blue Jackets coaching staff. Off ice training will also include the skating treadmill and Rapidshot.

Ohio AAA Blue Jackets:

The Ohio AAA Blue Jackets program was formed to create, develop and maintain an elite hockey program in Ohio focused on player development that provides the training and environment for players to fully develop and enhance their skills.

This program also aims to provide the elite player with the support necessary to grow and succeed as a student-athlete and also assist and promote player advancement to the junior and collegiate levels.

The program currently fields teams at the Major Midget (18-under), Minor Midget (16-under), Major Bantam, Minor Bantam, Major Pee Wee and Minor Pee Wee levels.

Columbus Blue Jackets Quebec Pee Wee Team
























The Columbus Blue Jackets Quebec Pee Wee Team is a special team of 12-and 13-year-olds the Blue Jackets help send to the Quebec International Pee Wee Tournament. This annual tournament held  in Quebec City, Canada, is the largest and most prestigious youth hockey tournament in the world lasting 10 days throughout the month of February. The tournament regularly attracts over 200,000 fans and 2,300 players from 16 different countries. All of the tournament games at The Colisee will be broadcast live over the internet.

Ohio Sled Hockey

In conjunction with Ohio Sled Hockey, The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition (TAASC) and Chiller LLC, the Columbus Blue Jackets have initiated a program to provide physically disabled individuals of all ages an opportunity to get involved with the sport of ice skating and ice hockey. Ohio Sled Hockey offers an ongoing learn to play program at Chiller Dublin, and will assist TAASC in addressing the sport and recreational needs of individuals with disabilities. Street Jackets Program

Street Jackets, a member of the NHL Street Program, is a grass-roots street hockey program that allows kids to learn the basic skills of hockey on the playgrounds or in the gymnasiums of community based facilities through the donation of equipment, training sessions and manuals. There is no cost to the facilities for this program and all that kids need to participate is a pair of sneakers. The Blue Jackets further support this program with clinics and a championship tournament at the end of the year.

Hockey Rules! Presentations


Learn more about the game of hockey in a fun and informal setting.

Informative, fun and unique classroom style sessions for groups, businesses and civic organizations who want to learn more about the game of hockey. Participants will learn about the early days of hockey and the NHL, taught all the basic rules of the game and take a closer look at the equipment used by modern-day players. Hockey Clinics

Looking to improve stick-handling, shooting, or power-skating --- we can help.

Beginner Clinics:
Free Hockey Clinics with the Columbus Blue Jackets Fan Development Department provide beginners age six and up an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of playing hockey in a fun and safe environment with professional coaches and all necessary equipment provided. Clinics are offered at various times throughout the year.

Team or Program Clinics:
Clinics provided by the Columbus Blue Jackets Fan Development Staff will provide youth/adult street, in-line and ice players of all levels an opportunity to advance their skills. From basic clinics with new teams to advanced team clinics where in-depth concepts are discussed, the clinics will cater to all skill levels. Huntington Hockey To Go Truck...

The Huntington Hockey To Go Truck is an interactive team vehicle that is used for Hockey To Go presentations, hockey clinics, and special events throughout Ohio. The truck is equipped with a full street hockey rink and equipment, various interactive elements, state-of-the-art sound system and plenty of Blue Jackets giveaway items.

The Fanboni is a multi-purpose team vehicle used throughout Central Ohio for various events ranging from school and hospital visits to large community events and Stinger appearances.


 

NHL Diversity Task Force

Hockey is for Everyone provides support and unique programming to non-profit youth hockey organizations across North America that are committed to offering children of all backgrounds opportunities to play hockey. The initiative is supported by NHL member clubs, players, NHL alumni, and fans. To date Hockey is for Everyone has exposed close to 45,000 boys and girls to unique hockey experiences.

The Columbus Ice Hockey Club, a member of the NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone program, is supported by and run with the cooperation of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. The program continues to be extremely popular with over 100 participants who utilize the ice time and equipment provided. The program is under the supervision of John Haferman, Program Director.
