EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Ales Hemsky's scoring surge has the Edmonton Oilers on a winning streak.

Hemsky scored twice and Edmonton won its third straight game, 5-1 over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old right wing has eight points in the past three games on three goals and five assists.

``It's good for the confidence,'' he said. ``I play better with the puck right now.''

Todd Harvey and Raffi Torres also scored for Edmonton. Ryan Smyth and Hemsky scored on the power play in the second period, and defenseman Chris Pronger added two assists.

The Oilers went seven games without a win before their current streak.

``It's nice to feed off some confidence,'' Smyth said. ``A few guys are going good right now.''

Edmonton has been waiting for a breakout season from Hemsky, drafted 13th overall in 2001. He had a career-best 12 goals in 71 games for the Oilers in 2003-04 and scored 13 goals in 47 games with hometown Pardubice of the Czech Elite during the NHL lockout.

``You think it's going to be a seamless transition,'' Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish said. ``He's making lots of plays.''

Rostislav Klesla scored for Columbus, which lost its fifth straight road game and slipped to 1-8-0 overall in Edmonton.

Harvey scored his first goal for the Oilers in the first period, and George Laraque earned his 100th NHL point with an assist following some nifty stick work behind the net.

``That was the hardest one to get,'' Laraque said. ``It seems like it took 20 years.''

Hemsky wristed a shot past Marc Denis at 2:55 of the second period on a power play. His second goal of the season, with former Oiler Todd Marchant in the penalty box for hooking, came moments after being caught with an errant high stick.

Smyth's power-play goal came at 17:41, after he got the puck around a sprawling Adam Foote.

``It seemed like they wanted it more,'' Foote said. ``We got caught.''

Torres' team-leading eighth goal made it 4-1 in the third, and Hemsky tapped in his second goal 41 seconds later.

Klesla scored for Columbus in the first period, in his first regular-season game this season after coming back from a stress fracture in his right leg.

Edmonton center Mike Peca sustained a mild concussion after he was hit by Rick Nash's elbow in the first period.

``He didn't see him,'' MacTavish said. ``Bad timing.''

Nash was playing just his second game of the season after sustaining a high ankle sprain in training camp.

``I am sure if I was coming through the middle with my head down, anybody would do the same thing to me,'' he said. ``You don't like to make those hits.''

Notes: Oilers center Shawn Horcoff limped off after taking Duvie Westcott's shot off his ankle in the third period. ... The Oilers now play a season-high seven road games in 12 days, starting Thursday in Detroit. The long road trip is due to the Canadian Finals Rodeo, Nov. 9-13 at Rexall Place. ... The teams meet again Nov. 11 in Columbus . ... The crowd of 16,839 was the Oilers' sixth sellout of the season.
