CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Blackhawks erased a third-period deficit with one dizzying stretch.
Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith scored during an impressive sequence in the final period, and the Blackhawks rallied to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 Wednesday night.
Toews, Seabrook and Keith then scored in a 3:57 span midway through the period to give Chicago a 4-2 lead. Patrick Sharp completed the scoring with 11.2 seconds left.
"We find different ways to win," Blackhawks coach Denis Savard said. "I thought we could have put them away in the second period and had lots of chances. We stuck with the game plan and our character showed up."
Defensemen James Wisniewski, Seabrook and Keith drove to the net to score from close range.
"Three goals from defensemen: That's something Savvy is getting on us to do, jumping up into the play." Seabrook said. "We're getting more comfortable with doing that."
The Blue Jackets were 5-0-1 in their previous six games. Their last regulation loss was a 4-1 setback against Vancouver on Oct. 21.
"Except for the last 5 minutes of the second period and first 8 of the third, we didn't have any energy," Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We played a very loose game and paid for it.
"We played right into their hands and didn't follow our plan. Three of their goals were on odd-man rushes."
Patrick Lalime stopped 24 shots for Chicago and Toews, a rookie, added an assist for his first multipoint game.
Fredrik Norrena made 30 saves for Columbus.
Chicago center Kevyn Adams tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee when he was checked into the boards by Ole-Kristian Tollefsen midway through the first period. He's expected to miss the rest of the season.
Toews tied it in the third when his shot from the right circle beat Norrena high on the glove side.
Seabrook gave Chicago the lead at 9:06. He cut down the slot, gained a step on the Blue Jackets defenseman Jan Hejda and beat Norrena with a high backhander.
Keith scored from the left side of the crease during a 4-on-4 at 11:13 to make it 4-2.
Sharp was credited with the final goal. His shot on an empty net hit the post, but he was awarded a goal because Columbus' Jason Chimera knocked the goal off its moorings.
Notes: Columbus C Manny Malhotra played his 500th NHL game. ... Columbus D Duvie Westcott missed his sixth game with a concussion. Blue Jackets' Fredrik Modin sat out his second game with a back injury. ... Chicago LW Sergei Samsonov was a healthy scratch for the fifth straight game. ... Chicago LW Martin Havlat, who missed his 14th game with a shoulder injury, has resumed skating without contact.
