Hockey Operations Executive Staff
SCOTT HOWSON, General Manager

Scott Howson was named the second General Manager in Columbus Blue Jackets history on June 15, 2007 and oversees all aspects of the club's hockey operations efforts.

Howson came to Columbus after spending seven years with the Edmonton Oilers. He joined the club in June 2000 as assistant to the general manager and was named assistant general manager a year later. In that role, he was responsible for all aspects of the club's hockey administration, including player contracts, personnel decisions, the collective bargaining agreement, its American Hockey League affiliates and the salary cap.

During his six seasons with the Oilers, the club posted five-straight winning campaigns from 2000-06, averaged 37 wins and 89 points per season, topped 90 points four times and advanced to the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals, where they were defeated in seven games by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Prior to his arrival in Edmonton, Howson spent six years with the Oilers' American Hockey League affiliates. As general manager of the Cape Breton Oilers from 1994-96, he oversaw the franchise's move to Hamilton in 1996 and was the Bulldogs' general manager from 1996-03. During that time, he led Hamilton to a pair of berths in the Calder Cup Finals (1997, 2003) and a conference semi-finals appearance in 2002.

Born on April 9, 1960 in Toronto, Ontario, Howson played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League as a forward with the Kingston Canadiens from 1978-81, serving as team captain and earning OHL All-Star honors. Following his junior career, he signed a free agent contract with the New York Islanders and spent the next five years playing at various levels throughout the organization.

During his rookie season in 1981-82, he was named the International Hockey League's Rookie of the Year after registering 55-65-120 in 71 games with the Toledo Goaldiggers. He was the league’s second-leading scorer that year and helped Toledo capture the league championship. Howson also won a Central Hockey League title with the Indianapolis Checkers in 1982-83. He made his NHL debut with the Islanders during the 1984-85 season and tallied 4-1-5 and two penalty minutes in eight games. He added 1-2-3 and two penalty minutes in 10 games the following season before retiring as a player at the end of the 1985-86 season.

Howson earned his bachelor's degree in 1987 from York University in Toronto and is a 1990 graduate of the university's Osgoode Hall Law School. He and his wife, Antoinette Mongillo, are the parents of a son, Max, and daughters, Rebekah and Joanna.

Jim Clark has been a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for nine years and serves as the club’s assistant general manager. His duties include overseeing the hockey operations efforts of the Syracuse Crunch, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, and scouting players at various professional leagues.

During Clark's tenure with the club, its minor league affiliates enjoyed the finest seasons in their respective franchise histories. In 2005-06, Syracuse posted a 47-25-5-3 record with its102 points breaking the franchise mark of 96 set in 2001-02 when Syracuse captured its first division title, winning the Central Division with a 39-23-13-5 record.

The club's best season was 2000-01 when the Bombers went 45-21-6 (96 pts.) and appeared in the Kelly Cup Finals. The following year, Dayton won the Northeast Division with a 40-20-12 record (92 points).

Clark came to Columbus from the Florida Panthers, where he was a key member of the club's scouting staff from 1995 to 1998. Prior to his stint in Florida, he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings organization for four seasons, including 1993-94 when he served as a pro scout and the director of operations for the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings when the club won the Northern Division with a record of 45-27-8.

Clark accumulated 10 years of Junior A hockey experience before joining the professional ranks, serving in various capacities for the Western Capitals in his hometown of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. His time with the Capitals included stints as the team's general manager, head coach and assistant coach. The excellence of his work with the club was recognized when he was selected the Executive of the Year by the Prince Edward Island Hockey Association in 1989.

Clark was born on March 16, 1954. He is a graduate of Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, where he played hockey for four years and earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. His three daughters Meghan, Brittany and Rebecca reside with their mother, Natalie, on Prince Edward Island.
